Morcem® Dry SF

Surface weatherproof mortar by saturation of capillary network of the concrete. Once mixed with water, it penetrates the interstices and capillaries of the concrete, combining with the free lime from the cement hydration, forming insoluble crystals that block potential water pathways through the concrete.

Technical Caracteristics

Product based on high-strength white cement, selected aggregates and special additives, pigments, and synthetic resin.

Advantages and Uses

Surface waterproofing for concrete structures, such as:

  • Surface waterproofing for any type of concrete, whether dry or wet. In the latter case, the moisture disappears a few days after the product has been applied.
  • Water retention structures: tanks, ponds, fountains, swimming pools, canals, pipes, dams.
  • Waterproofing below the water table: basements, foundations, lift shafts.
  • Structures waterproofing: walls, rising damp in concrete walls, floors with capillary moisture, tunnels.
  • “Sandwich system” floor waterproofing.
  • It may be applied on interior or exterior walls, floors, and ceilings.
  • Impervious to rainwater and permeable to water vapour.
  • Chloride-free.
  • Easy to apply.

Suitable Substrates

  • Concretes, precast concrete blocks, and cement-rich plasters.
  • Substrates must be resistant enough (minimum tensile strength 1N/mm2), stable, sound, and clean.
  • Free of dust, release agents, organic products, etc. The substrate must be firm and rough, free of grout. Smooth and not very absorbent substrates should be mechanically treated (for example by sandblasting)
  • Do not apply on modified or damp-proof substrates.
  • Do not apply on carbonated concrete as it complicates penetration thus preventing surface waterproofing by saturation of the capillary network (crystallization reaction does not occur).
  • In case of heavy heat, wind, or very absorbent substrates, it is advisable to moisten the substrate and wait until the water film is totally absorbed.
  • Substrates which are not subjected to significant movements.

Application Procedure

  • Add between 1 and 1.1 litres of water for a 5 kg container and between 5 and 5.5 litres for a 25 kg container and mix manually or mechanically until a homogeneous and workable consistency is achieved.

APPLICATION AS WATERPROOFING RENDER

  • In case of water leaks, they should be treated beforehand with MORCEMREST OBTURADOR (rapid water stop).
  • While the substrate is still moistened, apply a first coat of the product with a brush in a single direction. Before the first coat has hardened (2 to 4 hours), apply a second cross coat, ensuring the surface is covered evenly.
  • The final finish can be conducted with a normal trowel or a sponge square plastering trowel, depending on the texture desired.
  • Wait for at least 4 days before filling with water.

SPRINKLE APPLICATION

  • Apply on blinding concrete: Once the steel is placed on the blinding concrete, the latter should be dampened to saturation, and MORCEMDRY SF should be evenly sprinkled over it. Subsequent concreting should be conducted after a period of 1 to 2 hours, taking care not to damage or displace the waterproofing coat.
  • Sprinkled application and float finish: Once the concrete has been spread and begins to set, smooth the area and sprinkle MORCEMDRY SF is evenly over it. Next, trowel the surface to achieve a monolithic surface coat.

Recommendations

  • Do not apply the product under 5ºC nor above 30ºC temperature.
  • Preferably apply on the positive side, that is, the side that receives the water pressure.
  • When applied on the negative side, there is a risk of detachment if the water pressure exceeds the material's adhesion.
  • Do not apply under the risk of frost, rain, heavy wind, or direct sun light.
  • To ensure a correct waterproof, the minimum thickness should be 2 mm minimum, as a render.
  • In areas with potential movement, such as shrinkage cracks in the substrate or critical points of the element to be waterproofed, it is recommended to reinforce the rendering between both the coats  with a strip of MORCEMDRY MALLA, a gridded fine mesh, This should be applied as carefully as possible, avoiding any folds or creases in the mesh. The union between fibreglass meshes should be overlapped with a minimum width of 5 cm.
  • It is advisable to conduct an application of MORCEMREST RF 35 in 5 x 5 cm half-round shape in the intersections between wall-wall, wall-floor, and wall-ceiling.
  • In the execution of sprinkled application on concrete slabs or floors, remember to apply a joint waterproofing system.
  • When applying the product in areas below the water table, the water table must be maintained through pumping during the application and curing of MORCEMDRY SF.
  • Consult with the Technical Department for any application not specified in this Technical Data Sheet. For any information regarding safety in handling, transportation, storage, and use of the product, please refer to the label and the updated version of the product's Safety Data Sheet.
